| Initiated as part of the Building a Healthier Tomorrow campaign in 2006, the Cancer Center Endowment Fund provides long-term financial stability for outpatient cancer services at the Cancer Center at DeKalb Medical. These services include the chaplaincy program, publications, counseling, educational services, screenings, family support, clinical trials and other services to patients, their families and the community free of charge.
The Tree House Gang is a Cancer Center program that enables children who have a parent diagnosed with cancer to meet in groups and to have one-on-one counseling with a child mental health professional. If a parent dies, the children come to a Grief Group for Young Survivors (a name they chose for themselves) and learn how to cope in a world without their parent. DeKalb Medical has received national attention for its work with these children. Funds raised enable this program to continue offering support and resources to children in the Decatur area who desperately need help learning how to cope with serious disease in their families. |
