Because respiratory care is a major component of the service, the facility applied for and received certification within the Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification Program. In 2006, and again in 2008, DeKalb Medical Long Term Acute Care at Downtown Decatur was awarded the specialized certification in Respiratory Failure with Patient on a Ventilator. Dekalb Medical Long Term Acute Care at Downtown Decatur is the only facility of its kind in the nation with this distinctive award.
