The Wellness Center has offered a variety of lifestyle and fitness programs since it opened its doors in 1985. Now occupying the entire ground level of the 2665 Professional Building, The Wellness Center is an 18,000-square-foot facility complete with an indoor pool and indoor track. Our clients include members of the community, DeKalb Medical employees and volunteers and DeKalb Medical physicians and their office staff members.
We offer a variety of services in the areas of fitness, lifestyle education, and integrative medicine. Our programs and services are designed to meet individual needs. Whether you use an assistive device or are a well-conditioned athlete you'll find classes and equipment to help you reach your personal goals for optimal health.

Hours of Operation

Monday - Friday: 5:30 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Wellness Center is open every day except the following holidays: Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

About the Staff

Every staff member is a trained health professional, and all are certified in CPR. Our staff includes registered nurses, health educators, exercise physiologists, registered dietitians, massage therapists, fitness technicians and customer service representatives. In addition, the classes and services are provided by staff with certification in the fields in which they work, as well as years of experience in their fields. Our fitness and nutrition staff includes the following:

Membership

No contract or initiation fee is required.

Membership includes unlimited aerobics, free weights, cardiovascular equipment (bikes, stairclimber, treadmills, etc.), a 1/15-mile track, Cybex strength training (see "other options," below), water aerobics and lap swimming.

Membership is available to anyone 16 years of age and older. Children under the age of 16 should be supervised by an adult and are welcome to visit the client lounge and vending and lobby areas. For safety reasons, they are restricted from the pool and exercise areas.

To become a member, you must complete an application and a health history form. The information provided on these forms is considered confidential. Please let us know when any of this information changes. For example, if you have a change of address or you would like to change your emergency contact person, we will need to update your file.

Payment Options

Membership is not required to take lifestyle classes.

  • Join for the month: $43; senior discount: $37.
  • Join for the year: $415; senior discount: $358. second household member: $375; second senior discount: $323.
  • Join for 6 months: $233; senior discount: $200.
  • Second household member: $222; second senior discount: $190.
  • Six-month and one-year memberships may be paid by electronic bank draft.
  • Six-month and one-year memberships may be temporarily inactivated (frozen) if you are unable to use the center. Freezing must be initiated prior to the time you will be away from The Wellness Center. Please see a staff member for details.
  • Discounts are available for DeKalb County government employees, Decatur City School employees and those covered by SouthCare/Coventry insurance.

Other Options

  • There is a one-time, $35 set-up fee for Cybex strength training. This enables the participant to meet one and one-half hours with an exercise specialist who will design a personalized weight-training program. To schedule a Cybex set-up of to make any other fitness appointments, please call The Wellness Center's exercise physiologist at 404-501-5415.
  •  Easy Motion classes: $26/month (for clients who attend only this class).
  • Guest pass: For $10/day or $30/two weeks, guests have access to the facility, exercise classes and equipment, excluding the Cybex machines. If a guest joins The Wellness Center within 30 days of the visit, $10 will be deducted from the first month's payment. Each guest will be asked to complete a health history form and sign a release before exercising.
  • Gift certificates can be purchased at the front desk for massages, memberships and lifestyle classes.
  • The Wellness Center accepts personal checks, cash, credit cards and debit cards.

Parking

The Wellness Center offers free validating parking for members. There are three designated parking areas for The Wellness Center. Clients with handicaps and/or limited mobility are invited to park by the entrance to The Wellness Center or near the main entrance to the 2665 Professional Building.

Other clients are invited to park in the main parking deck. From the parking deck, you can access The Wellness Center via a tunnel from the ground floor of the parking deck or through the main entrance to the 2665 Professional Building.

Center Regulations

  • Members cannot bring in their own personal trainers.
  •  Members must adhere to the dress code. Sweat pants, leotards, tights and/or shorts that come midway between the thigh and knee are permitted. Shirts are required in all areas except the pool and locker rooms.
  • Clothing with zippers, buttons or tabs that could catch and harm equipment are not allowed. While exercising, proper athletic footwear is required. Sandals, flip-flops, bare feet or socks without footwear are not permitted except in the pool area and locker rooms.
  • Any behavior that may jeopardize the safety of others cannot be allowed.
  • Be courteous and wipe off equipment after use.
  • Limit the number of sets and the time you use each piece of equipment.
  • The center provides one complimentary towel for each member, but due to high demand the service may not be accessible. Please bring a towel from home as a backup.
  • We reserve the right to close The Wellness Center or parts of The Wellness Center for routine or emergency maintenance. You have our assurance that we will make every attempt to have maintenance performed during the times we are normally closed.

Swimming Pool Guidelines

  • Showering is required prior to entering the pool.
  • Bathing suits and approved aquatic apparel are allowed. Cutoff jeans, blue jeans and tennis shorts are not allowed.
  • Aquatic shoes are encouraged for water aerobic classes.
  • Because the pool is shallow, diving is not permitted.
  • For safety reasons, running, pushing, shoving and horseplay are prohibited.
  • Bobby pins, hairpins and bandages may not be worn.
  • Jewelry and make-up should be removed before swimming.
  • All beverages must be in spill-proof, nonbreakable containers. Glass containers are not allowed.

Code of Conduct

Safety is our first priority. Any behavior which may jeopardize the safety of others cannot be allowed. Also, to ensure we provide our members and guests with the best possible health and fitness environment, we ask that you use common courtesy when using the facilities and amenities. Wiping off equipment after use and limiting sets and the time you use each piece of equipment are examples of common courtesy. If you have any concerns, complaints or suggestions, please contact a member of The Wellness Center staff.

Locker Use

Lockers are available at no charge for your convenience on a per-visit basis. Members are asked to supply their own locks. We recommend you leave valuables at home or locked in your car. Secure your other belongings and personal items in a locker while you are using the facility. Please note that all locks left overnight will be removed and locker contents will be placed in Lost and Found. We are not responsible for replacing locks or for any damaged or stolen items.

Lost and Found

Please collect all personal items before leaving the center. If you think you may have lost a belonging, ask the front desk staff to check the Lost and Found. Please remember we cannot be responsible for any items lost, damaged or stolen.

Membership Badge

Your ID badge will be mailed to you within approximately two weeks of joining The Wellness Center. Until your badge arrives, check in at the front desk by giving your name to the customer service representative.

Members are required to present their membership badge upon entry to The Wellness Center and to wear it at all times while visiting. If your badge is lost, stolen or destroyed, there is a $10 administrative fee for each membership badge replacement.

Special Accommodations

For those clients who may need them, The Wellness Center provides a family dressing room in addition to a pool chair lift to assist clients in and out of the pool.
